Roblox Studio AI Assistant
Assistant is Roblox’s official in-Studio AI helper. It can answer questions, edit your data model, generate scripts and assets, run a reviewable Planning Mode, and expose Studio to trusted third-party agents through a built-in MCP server. This page summarizes Creator Hub docs and Roblox’s April 2026 agentic Studio newsroom post — it is not a rewrite of the official site.
How to open it
- Open your place in the latest Roblox Studio.
- Click Assistant on the right side of the mezzanine bar.
- Type a request. Use the redo icon for a new response; thumbs up/down to rate.
Chats are scoped to the place (not the whole experience). You can keep multiple threads, branch from any Assistant message, and history syncs through the cloud across devices. Deleted chats are permanent. If Studio is open on several machines, work in one chat at a time to avoid conflicts.
What Assistant can do (from Creator Hub)
| Capability | Notes from official docs |
|---|---|
| Q&A and explain code | General Roblox development help; can explain generated or hand-written scripts |
| Scripts | Insert, modify, multi-object changes (e.g. RemoteEvent + LocalScript + Script together). Output may need edits — docs say generated scripts might not function flawlessly |
| Objects & Creator Store | Create/edit/delete instances; search free and paid Creator Store assets plus inventories; /insert_asset by id |
| Materials | Lightweight Material Generator styling on existing parts |
| Meshes | /generate_mesh or natural language; optional reference image or text (not both in one request); optional Part bounding box; default max 10,000 triangles |
| Procedural models | /generate_procedural_model; up to 50 generations per rolling 24 hours; lives under GeneratedFolder |
| Segmentation | Split generated (or imported) meshes into named parts for materials/scripts; recommended part-name tables for cars, weapons, etc. |
| Screen capture subagent | Can capture the 3D viewport (Edit or Play) so Assistant can reason about the scene |
Planning Mode
For multi-step work, Planning Mode builds a task list before touching the place.
- Select Plan in the Assistant input dropdown, or type
/plan. - Review the generated Markdown plan (Open Plan opens the editor). Edit steps, then Save so Assistant updates its task list.
- Click Build only when the plan matches your intent. Plans never auto-execute.
Plans are stored in the cloud, tied to your experience and creator profile, and are private (not visible to collaborators). The April 2026 DevForum post says Planning Mode can call material/mesh generation and Creator Store insert tools, ask clarifying questions (mesh vs procedural), and use playtesting/verification agents while executing. Early testers reported a “I’ll complete [task]” loop bug; staff said it was fixed April 17, 2026 — if you hit a loop, pause generation.
MCP server (third-party AI clients)
Studio’s MCP server uses local stdio transport. Once enabled, a connected client can explore the data model, edit scripts, generate meshes/materials/procedural models, run Luau, start/stop play, read console output, simulate input, and more (full tool table is on Creator Hub).
- Open Assistant → … → Manage MCP Servers.
- Turn on Enable Studio as MCP server.
- Use Quick connect for supported clients, or paste the documented JSON / CLI command for your OS.
Warning from Roblox’s docs: MCP clients can read and modify open places — only connect tools you trust. Roblox’s newsroom (Apr 15, 2026) frames MCP as the bridge for Claude, Cursor, Codex and similar tools.
Adoption claim (Roblox’s number)
In “Roblox Studio is Going Agentic” (Apr 15, 2026), SVP of Engineering Nick Tornow wrote that 44% of the top 1,000 creators used Roblox Assistant or third-party AI tools via MCP between March 6 and April 7, 2026. Footnote: top creators ranked by Robux spent in experience over the past 28 days as of April 7, 2026. That is Roblox’s measurement window — not a live GGDuck poll.
Pros
- Built-in and always available once Studio is open — no third-party account required for core Assistant.
- Broad surface area: scripts, hierarchy edits, Creator Store insert, materials, meshes, procedural models, viewport capture.
- Explicit Planning Mode gate reduces surprise edits; undo/checkpoints called out on the DevForum announcement.
- Official MCP lets you bring stronger external models when Assistant’s default quality is not enough.
- Documented limits (e.g. 50 procedural models / 24h) instead of a hidden paywall page.
Cons and caveats
- Output quality varies. Creator Hub itself says generated scripts might not work flawlessly. On the Planning Mode DevForum thread (Apr 16, 2026), several creators called the default LLM weak for simple features or 3D models and said they prefer MCP + Claude/Codex; others welcomed a free built-in option.
- Can change a lot quickly if you skip Planning Mode — keep saves / undo ready.
- Reference images in plans currently need Bring-Your-Own-Key (BYOK) per the DevForum announcement.
- Not a branded “first game” product. Lemonade and similar agents market onboarding for new creators; Assistant is a general Studio surface for every experience type.
Compare: Assistant vs Lemonade vs other tools
| Studio Assistant | Lemonade AI | ForgeGUI / AI script generators | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maker | Roblox | Lemonade Labs | Third parties (batch 2) |
| UI home | Studio panel | lemonade.gg + Studio plugin | Usually Studio plugins |
| Money | Included with Studio | Free plugin; paid monthly prompt tier; no refunds (ToS); prices behind sign-in | Product-specific |
| Planning | Official Planning Mode + Build gate | Web plan approval (community walkthroughs) | Often single-shot generate |
| Meshes / materials | Yes (documented) | Not the core pitch | ForgeGUI also has AI GFX/icon threads on DevForum |
| Bring your own model | Via MCP to Cursor/Claude/etc. | Lemonade’s agent (model-agnostic per founder interview) | Varies |
Rule of thumb from the sources above: start with Assistant + Planning Mode for free in-editor work and assets; add MCP when you want an external model; try Lemonade if you prefer their web onboarding loop and accept opaque paid limits. Script-generator and ForgeGUI details wait for batch 2.
Quick start checklist
- Update Studio.
- Open Assistant → try a small script or object prompt on a throwaway baseplate.
- For anything larger than a few instances, use
/plan, edit the plan, then Build. - Playtest; fix with follow-up prompts or the Script Editor.
- Optional: enable MCP only for clients you trust.

FAQ
What is Roblox Studio AI Assistant?
Assistant is Roblox’s built-in AI helper in Studio. Creator Hub docs say it answers development questions, creates and modifies objects and scripts in your data model, inserts Creator Store assets, explains selected code, generates materials, and generates 3D meshes and procedural models. It combines an LLM with a run-command system that can act on the place.
How do I open Assistant in Studio?
Click Assistant on the right side of the mezzanine bar, then type a request in the Assistant window. You can start new chats, branch from a response, and rate answers with thumbs up/down. Chat history is saved in the cloud per place.
What is Planning Mode?
Planning Mode turns a complex prompt into an editable Markdown plan you review before any changes run. Activate it from the Assistant input dropdown (Plan) or by typing /plan. Plans persist in the cloud for your experience and creator profile. Nothing executes until you click Build — plans do not auto-accept or time out into acceptance (Creator Hub + DevForum announcement, April 2026).
What is the Studio MCP server?
Studio includes a built-in Model Context Protocol (MCP) server so trusted AI clients (Cursor, Claude Desktop/Code, VS Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, and others listed in docs) can read/edit scripts, generate assets, run Luau, playtest, and capture the viewport. Enable it under Assistant → Manage MCP Servers → Enable Studio as MCP server. Only connect clients you trust.
Is Assistant free? How does it compare to Lemonade?
Creator Hub does not describe a separate Assistant subscription; it ships with Studio. Lemonade’s plugin is also free to install but its terms add a paid monthly prompt-limit subscription with no refunds. Assistant covers meshes/materials/procedural models and official MCP; Lemonade is a third-party web agent aimed at first-time creators. See the comparison section.
